When I set out to really begin blogging about our life again I knew it wasn’t going to be consistent. I do this for me, not for any type of monetary gain, more for mental clarity. But holy moly the holidays took over and I figured I should probably sit down and do a little update to my little corner of the internet.
We really did not do anything spectacular over the holiday season, just spent it with family and ourselves. January was a little more of a whirlwind with various things happening in life. Let’s just say I had a few proud wife moments but we will share those at a later date.
To realize that it is already February is amazing. As I get older I feel like time gets shorter, clearly, that is not physically possible, but we do have so much that has to get done in a day that they just vanish. I really have tried to make slowing down and living a very minimalistic life the goal for 2019 and beyond in our household, so if you don’t see daily or weekly posts here, that is why, some days it is nice to just sit and enjoy the quiet with my buddy by my side always, Ella.
To also be 100% transparent on here, it started to get weird/hard/not enjoyable to share everything about our lives to the internet. Not that there is anything wrong with those who do, but I began to realize that I truly enjoy keeping the best parts of our life just between the two of us. It also became very apparent that some people thought just because they read it on the blog, they knew everything that was happening in our lives and never cared to continue to build relationships.
I have been taking the time these last few months to think about what I do want to share on here and realized that our life can be broken down into a few categories in recent years.
Wine. We really have taken to enjoying learning about wine, not just drinking it, which I think people think is all we do. We will spend hours drinking one bottle and talking about it, plus, my husband got me a really nifty journal to document all the wine we drink from Wine Folly. If only the last 5 years of what we drank could magically make it into the book, but we will just have to drink them again and explore our tastebuds one more time.
Mental Health. Do these two go hand in hand? I would like to say no, but sadly I will say, yes. I am one who has realized sometimes I turned to wine during difficult moments, let’s just say that has all drastically changed now that I make my mental health my number one priority. Yes, my happiness is what I make sure is full before anything else in our life and I am not mad about that decision at all. I also believe that we as a culture need to make this a regular Sunday dinner conversation. I for one am sick of people sugar coating things and making excuses as to why we don’t/can’t talk about mental health – the good, bad, beautiful and ugly.
Which leads me to my final little category here in my little corner of the internet, The State of Our Union, Country, Life, Planet, call it whatever you want but I for one am sick of being quiet about things that are very important to me and have a lasting impact for the future, even if it means distancing myself from certain friends and family. This decision again leads back to me being happy and for 34 years I kept quiet and I wasn’t happy, and that girl has waved goodbye to those days as I approach 35 and some major life changes about to take place in our home.
If any of these offend you, then I will have to say Bye, Felicia! This is my space, these are my thoughts, my opinions, and my life. I share because I know there may be one person out there that needs to hear what I have to say. I don’t share so people can think they are “keeping up” with what is going on in our house, because some things can only be expressed through conversations face to face.
So here is to making 2019 fabulous! Focusing on me, sharing a bit about our life, and making my little corner of the internet a happy, uplifting, educational space for whoever wants to stop by. There is always wine to be shared, so pour yourself a glass and enjoy the ride of this Southern Housewife! It’s gonna be a good year!
